Austrian Audio has successfully created a handheld vocal microphone that combines the sonic characteristics of a premium studio condenser with the durability required for demanding live applications. The combination of exceptionally low self-noise (19 dB SPL) and high maximum sound pressure level (151 dB SPL) delivers an impressive dynamic range suited to the most challenging professional environments.
At the heart of the microphone lies the OCC7 small-diaphragm capsule with true condenser technology, designed and manufactured in Vienna. The capsule features a three-micron thick gold-coated polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) diaphragm, offering significantly greater robustness compared to conventional Mylar alternatives.
Austrian Audio's proprietary Open Acoustics Technology permits sound to reach the capsule with minimal obstruction from all directions. Contact points between the mounted capsule and housing are minimised, whilst sound-reflective surfaces near the capsule are reduced to ensure the cleanest possible signal reproduction. Advanced materials engineering and precision mechanics effectively suppress unwanted vibrations and maximise feedback rejection.
This intelligent design also minimises the microphone's susceptibility to handling noise and physical impact. The switchable second-order high-pass filter further enhances performance, providing effective tonal shaping and control over excessive proximity effect when required.
