A single HALO-A delivers flat free-field frequency response from 48Hz to 19kHz (±3dB) with phase response maintained within ±20 degrees between 150Hz and 18kHz. Due to the unique loading technique applied to the low-frequency drivers, combined with the high-frequency waveguide design, dispersion pattern control is sustained down to 250Hz.
Similar to HALO-C, the high-frequency section represents a key differentiator from competitive systems. Unlike HALO-C, which employs an AMT plane-wave driver, HALO-A utilises compression drivers to meet the substantially higher SPL requirements for these applications. However, HALO-A incorporates a proprietary emulation manifold that combines the output of four 3.4" (86mm) diaphragm, 1.4" (36mm) exit compression drivers into a plane-wave array. This assembly not only provides exceptional moving area for the high-frequency section but delivers twice the headroom of comparable systems. From another perspective, when operated at equivalent SPL to competing systems, HALO-A exhibits 3dB lower distortion due to the increased overall HF capacity.
Complementing these four high-frequency drivers are two high-power 3.5" (88mm) voice coil, 12" (305mm) low-frequency transducers. These powerful drivers, combined with optimally tuned low-turbulence porting and generous cabinet volume, ensure HALO-A delivers low-frequency performance to match its exceptional high-frequency capabilities. Maintaining HALO-A as a two-way system reduces off-axis parallax issues to a single crossover point—through extensive research and development this issue has been virtually eliminated.
The HALO-A enclosure is constructed from premium 15mm and 30mm (" and 1 3/16") multi-laminate birch plywood—rebated, screwed and glued for maximum structural integrity. Intelligent internal bracing, combined with the unique low-loss porting structure, minimises panel flexure—eliminating unwanted resonances whilst maintaining low overall enclosure weight. The enclosure features a polyurethane coating which, being substantially more durable than conventional water-based finishes used on competing products, provides HALO-A with significant weather resistance without additional treatment.
The rigging hardware has been engineered with touring flexibility and reliability as priorities. HALO-A employs a three-point system utilising quick-release pins as standard. Array angles can be pre-set on individual elements whilst stored on their transport carts. As the array is lifted, the rear links move to their pre-set angles and a final pin secures everything in position. Ultra-high tensile steel components form the core of the three-point system, coated with Xylan™—a fluoropolymer coating containing PTFE for both lubrication and impact resistance. Arrays of up to 24 elements can be safely assembled with above-regulation safety margins.
HALO-A requires two amplifier channels and utilises the latest FIR DSP technology—as such it must be powered by one of EM Acoustics' Advanced System Amplifiers to function correctly. These amplifiers offer efficient operation—up to eight HALO-A enclosures can be driven from a single DQ20, although four is recommended as maximum for full output capability.
