The OD505 Active Dynamic Vocal Microphone represents Austrian Audio's versatile flagship vocal solution, showcasing exceptional Viennese engineering and craftsmanship. Featuring Active Dynamic Technology, the OD505 is primarily designed for live performance applications whilst offering excellent capabilities for studio recording. Combining uncompromising durability with the advantages of dynamic microphone technology and the tonal refinement of a condenser, the OD505 delivers outstanding versatility.
Incorporating Austrian Audio's proprietary Open Acoustics Technology, the ODC50-SC capsule within the OD505 is mounted in a near free-floating configuration. By minimising contact points between the capsule and its mounting, and eliminating unwanted acoustic reflections from the housing, the Open Acoustics design produces pristine, natural and resonance-free sound reproduction without colouration.
The active front capsule requires 48V phantom power and delivers sensitivity of 4.4 mV/Pa—comparable to condenser microphone performance. The active circuitry ensures consistent sound quality regardless of microphone preamplifier input impedance or cable length. The passive lower capsule employs phase-reversal technology to sense and cancel unwanted handling noise. This advanced dual-capsule design, combined with the selectable second-order high-pass filter, renders the OD505 virtually immune to handling noise, impacts and stage vibrations.
